Garden Structures - Vardos, Saunas, Outhouses, Outdoor Showers, Artistic Fences-Gates and Arbors.
Back in 2014 we researched into the various traditional forms of gypsy vardos, and then designed and built a couple of vardos based on the bow-top vardo, but with a West coast conestoga wagon twist. We lived in these 8 and 10 foot long micro-houses for a couple of West Coast years before selling them and moving to the East Coast. Although tinier then a tiny house, these both had sitting height saunas for 4-5 people under the bed.
Living in Maine we wanted a full size sauna, and being familiar with various designs such as the Scandinavian designs and the barrel sauna, we designed a sauna based on the architecture of the human body, which just so happens to be similar to the design of the ledge vardo. The coffin shaped door was an inspiration based on the coffin shaped soaking tub I built to allow for steam baths in the minimum amount of water possible.
We got into doing raw cedar woven fences, arbors, gates and raised garden beds in the Blue Hill area before having kids changed our life and are bringing them back online now that we have sourced a hopefully inexhaustible supply of materials locally.
